SHAUN'S SHOW AT CRONDON PARK

SHAUN MURPHY capped a fine few days by winning group 5 of the Championship League at Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex on Tuesday night.

Murphy captured his first title for 29 months when he won the Gdynia Open in Poland on Sunday night.

And the 31 year-old maintained this form, topping the seven-man group and beating Dominic Dale 3-1 in the final.

“I think it’s a benefit of the tour being so busy that when you’re playing well you can get on a good run,” said Murphy, who had been in every group since the first.

“When things aren’t going so well you sometimes want to get off the bus but when you are playing well you can get on a really successful run.

“I’m chuffed to get through to the Winners’ Group. In the past this has been a good tournament for me but I was beginning to think I might go through every group and not get through.”

Neil Robertson made six centuries during the group to take his tally for the season to 86 but was relegated in last place.

Mark Selby was the other player relegated despite winning three of his six matches. He finished behind fifth-placed John Higgins due to having lost one frame more than the Scot.

Dale, Higgins, Ryan Day and Marco Fu return for group 6 on Wednesday and Thursday, along with Mark Williams, Michael Holt and the defending Championship League champion, Martin Gould.
