THE GRAND FINALS of the Players Tour Championship will be staged in Europe after World Snooker confirmed the event could not go ahead in Thailand.
As first revealed on Inside Snooker, political unrest in Bangkok had led to the governing body being advised it may not be safe for players to travel to the Thai capital.
Other venues in Thailand were considered but a World Snooker statement today said the event will not take place in the country.
“Negotiations are taking place with alternative venues in the UK and Europe and a new location for the £300,000 event will be announced as soon as possible,” the statement said.
The event is due to run from March 25-29. The China Open starts just two days later on March 31, which could create problems for scheduling matches at the latter event.
The PTC finals were first held in Dublin in 2011 and have been staged in Galway for the last two years.
The top 24 from the European Tour order of merit and top 8 from the Asian Tour order of merit are eligible to play.
